POI Data (Points of Interest)

POI (point-of-interest) data is structured information about specific physical locations that people may find useful or want to visit - such as businesses, landmarks, transit stops, and amenities - typically including a name, category, geographic coordinates, and address.

In depth

What POI Data (Points of Interest) means.

A point of interest is any specific location worth identifying on a map: a restaurant, a store, a fuel station, a park, a hospital, or a transit stop. POI data captures these as structured records, almost always anchored by geographic coordinates and a category taxonomy, and frequently extended with a name, address, contact details, opening hours, and attributes specific to the category.

POI data underpins mapping and navigation apps, location-based search and recommendations, geographic analysis, logistics and routing, and site-selection studies. Businesses are the largest and most commercially important subset of POIs, which is why business listing data and POI data overlap heavily, though POI data also includes non-commercial places.

The hard problems are categorization, coordinate accuracy, deduplication, and freshness. Consistent categories let applications filter reliably; accurate coordinates matter for routing; deduplication resolves the same place appearing in multiple sources; and freshness matters because places open, close, and move. Coverage and quality vary widely by region and provider.

How biz collect relates

POI Data (Points of Interest) in biz collect.

biz collect focuses on the business subset of POI data. A search returns each matching place with its name, category, address, coordinates, phone, website, ratings, reviews, and opening hours, then adds website-crawled emails and social profiles - a richer record than a bare map pin. The data is generated live for the area you request rather than served from a static POI dump.

Because every record follows the same JSON schema, the output drops cleanly into mapping, analysis, or enrichment pipelines. biz collect is scoped to publicly available business locations, not private or sensitive points of interest.

POI Data (Points of Interest)

Frequently asked questions.

Is POI data the same as business listing data?

They overlap heavily but are not identical. Business listings are POIs, but POI data also covers non-commercial places such as landmarks, parks, and transit stops that are not businesses.

What fields does POI data usually contain?

At minimum a name, a category, and geographic coordinates. POI records are commonly extended with an address, contact details, opening hours, and category-specific attributes.
